First of all: “Why are ceramic coatings so expensive? Why do ceramic coatings cost so much? Doesn’t it seem absurd to pay thousands of dollars to put an overrated wax on your car’s paint? That sounds like something only a “rich car guy” would do! This couldn’t be further from the truth.
We have found that a majority of our customers in the greater Salt Lake City area don’t fully understand what a ceramic coating is. From a fundamental standpoint, a ceramic coating is the longest-term paint protection that is offered in the auto detailing industry. Ceramic coatings are a GIGANTIC leap from waxes and sealants which only last a few months at best. Ceramics on average protect 3-5+ years , and some even protect for the lifetime of the vehicle. These coatings form a hard bond that resistant against water, chemicals, and environmental debris. The difference of car that is coated and car that is not coated after a few years is astonishing.
Other than the supreme value (from protecting your car for the lifetime that you own it) what is with the hefty price tag? Costs for an application of a ceramic coating come from the labor, product, technical skill, and time involved preparing the vehicle to actually get coated. To properly prepare a vehicle to be coated you are looking at a day’s work minimum. We recently coated a boat and the preparation process took 2 FULL days before the boat was even ready to be coated.
In addition to the costs mentioned above, we are a certified ceramic coating installer. To become certified we went through extended training so we could receive the certification, so in some ways, we are charging for our expertise.
